As we go through life, we may all from time to time experience challenges that can sometimes feel too difficult or overwhelming to cope with alone. These could be anything from relationship difficulties, bereavement or loss, cultural issues, depression, anxiety, managing stress, problems at work or low self-esteem.
Whatever the issue, having a safe, supportive and confidential space to be able to talk through and explore these feelings can help you understand more about yourself. Gaining insight into your past and present way of being can lead to acceptance of who you are, growth and enable you to find new ways forward.
I am a professionally qualified and experienced Integrative-Relational counsellor. This means that I draw on a range of different theoretical approaches, such as humanistic, psychodynamic, CBT and mindfulness, to support the way I work. These are adapted and integrated to suit each client’s individual needs. Most importantly, I believe that if the relationship built feels trusting and supportive, this can enable safe exploration of difficult feelings and lead to greater insight and finding new ways forward.
In addition to running my private practice, I work in a counselling centre in Kingston and in a NHS GP practice in Surbiton. I offer individual, face-to-face counselling in the South Kensington and Thames Ditton areas.
I am an Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP Accred), which means I abide by the BACP ethical framework and principles for good practice. These can be viewed on their website.
- I've always tended to rationalise, cover up or ignore difficult feelings, resulting in depression. Sonia created a safe, supportive environment and skilfully encouraged me to explore them so I could let them go. Our sessions together were tremendously helpful and the insights I gained continue to help me.Mrs D (Kingston)
- I'm not good at opening up to people, so was nervous about seeing a counsellor. However, within the first session, Sonia created a safe environment for me to talk to her. I felt very lucky to have found a counsellor who I felt so comfortable with. Sonia has helped me to deal with my past, so I could move forward.Ms M (Surbiton)
- When I first met Sonia, I was really struggling with my work-life balance. She helped me focus on the essentials. Sonia helped me explore in a safe environment how I relate to and interact with other people. As I learned more about my 'unhelpful patterns' I was able to make simple changes which helped me improve some of my key relationships. Sonia made me feel comfortable and I truly appreciated her supportive techniques. I would recommend Sonia without hesitation.Mrs S (Kensington)
- Sonia has been such a help and I've learned such a lot and am still learning! I've really valued her skill, support and insightfulness.Miss A (Kingston)
Starting therapy can sometimes feel daunting. If you would like to discuss in confidence how counselling can help you, please call and we can have a chat over the phone. I can answer any questions you may have.
The first session is an opportunity for us to meet and discuss what brings you to therapy and how you hope counselling can support you. It is a time for you to talk over any questions and explore what you aim to achieve from the counselling process.
If we decide to continue working together, we will arrange further sessions, usually at the same time every week. I offer both short-term, solution-focused counselling and more open-ended counselling, depending on your requirements.
My aim as a counsellor is to build a safe and trusting relationship with you, my client. I believe having a supportive, confidential and non-judgemental space where difficulties can be safely and openly explored can be the key to enabling change and development.
If you have any further questions, please do contact me. We can discuss what is going on for you and I can answer questions about my services.
